SPRING 2011
This is a list of classes and workshops offered at AnAuthor World from January – April. More classes may be added at a later date. To register, to to “2011 Schedule and Registration.”
CLASSES
All classes are six weeks long and held at AnAuthor World’s studio, 475 Haywood, Suite 8 (inside Hargis Art Services and Gallery, which is next to The Melting Pot restaurant).
All classes are $150.00.
FICTION BASICS – Pam Zollman – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Mondays, January 17-February 21, 2011
This class will teach you how to turn your idea into a story, using five basic steps. You’ll develop a detailed character sketch of your main character and other major characters and develop the plot, using three major plot points. There will be class exercises, homework, and lots of handouts.
BUILD A BLOG – Edie Melson – 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Tuesdays, January 18-February 22, 2011
In this hands-on class, participants will come away with a finished blog site, as well as insights into how to build a community online.
WRITING FOR MAGAZINES – Pam Zollman – 6:30-8:30 p.m. –Tuesdays, January 18-February 22, 2011
You will learn how to analyze magazines, research your subjects, write the three parts of an article, and write query and cover letters. There will be class exercises, homework, and lots of handouts.
SHORT STORIES – Pam Zollman – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Mondays, February 28-March 14, 2011
The power of three will show you how to structure your stories. We’ll analyze published stories, as well as write our own. There will be class exercises, homework, and lots of handouts.
SOCIAL NETWORKING UNRAVELED – Edie Melson – 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Tuesdays, March 1-April 5, 2011
In this course, students will learn how to utilize social networking opportunities online. They’ll learn why an online presence is important for a writer and how to have one without spending hours a day online.
CHARACTER, PLOT AND STRUCTURE – Pam Zollman – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Tuesdays, March 1-April 5, 2011
Learn how your characters affect your plot, how plot differs from structure, and how to plot, using the screenwriter’s method. You’ll have homework, class exercises, and lots of handouts.
LEARN TO WRITE DEVOTIONS – Edie Melson – 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Thursdays, March
This course will take students through the steps to writing effective devotions. Lots of hands-on writing and critiquing, as well as a comprehensive market list.
SATURDAY WORKSHOPS

JANUARY
STRETCH YOUR CONFERENCE DOLLARS BY BEING PREPARED

Date: January 29, 2011
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
Cost: $75
In this workshop, Pam and Edie will take you through the basics of what to expect and how to prepare for a writers conference. You’ll learn how to design your own business card, prepare a one sheet and perfect your pitch. We’ll also help you decide which workshops will work best for you. Students will have a chance to practice their pitch in front of a camera. They will leave with a video of their pitch presentation. (This workshop will also be offered in March.)
FEBRUARY
INTRODUCTION TO WRITING COPY FOR PROFIT

Participants in this workshop will learn how to write copy effectively and where to find clients.
MARCH
STRETCH YOUR CONFERENCE DOLLARS BY BEING PREPARED

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
Cost: $75 ($60, if you also took the January workshop)
This is a repeat of the January Workshop. If you are a repeat student, you will not only get a 20% discount, but you will also have a chance to see how you’ve improved your pitch presentation and work on a new one.
PAM ZOLLMAN is the award-winning author of 40 children’s books, numerous articles and short stories. She is a former Highlights for Children magazine editor; has taught writing classes at Tomball College, Leisure Learning Center (Houston, TX) and University of Marywood (Scranton, PA); and is the founder of AnAuthor World. She is a frequent speaker at writing conference across the country.
EDIE MELSON has written hundreds of articles and devotions, has a copywriting business, and consults on web content and social networking. She is a former online magazine editor, a frequent faculty member at writers’ conferences and popular blogger. Her upcoming devotional book, Fighting Fear, Winning the War at Home, is for those with family members in the military and will be published by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas.
